How does the game work?

It's a tug-of-war math game! Two teams stand on opposite sides of the whiteboard. Each team gets their own math problem to solve. Every correct answer pulls the rope toward that team. The first team to pull the rope past the finish line wins!

What math topics does it cover?

Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, or any combination. You can also choose between easy, medium, and hard difficulty to match your class level.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Just open the link and play. There are no accounts, no downloads, and no personal data collected.

Does it work on interactive whiteboards?

Yes! It's built specifically for them. The game supports multi-touch so both teams can tap answers at the same time on the same screen. Tested with SMART Board, Promethean ActivPanel, ViewSonic ViewBoard, and standard projector setups.

What grade levels is it suitable for?

Tug of Math is designed for K-6 students (ages 5–12). Teachers can choose from three difficulty levels, use official grade-specific problem sets, or browse community-created sets tailored to specific curricula. Available in 13 languages.

What devices and browsers does it work on?

It works on any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox) on interactive whiteboards, tablets, laptops, and Chromebooks. Compatible with SMART Board 6000/7000 series, Promethean ActivPanel, ViewSonic ViewBoard, and all Chromebook models. No installation required.

Can two players play at the same time?

Yes! Both teams play simultaneously on the same screen. Each side has its own number pad and math problem, and multi-touch means both teams can tap answers at the exact same time. No waiting for turns, it's a real-time race.

Do students need their own devices?

No, that's the whole point. Tug of Math runs on one screen for the whole class. No Chromebook cart, no "everyone log in," no troubleshooting tablets. Just open it on your whiteboard, projector, or TV and your class is ready to play.

How do I set up a game for my class?

Open tugofmath.app, choose your math operations, difficulty, and points to win, then hit play. Split your class into two teams and you're good to go. The whole thing takes under 30 seconds. No accounts, no app installs.

Can I customize the math problems?

Yes. You can select which operations to include (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), set the difficulty level, and even create your own custom problem sets with specific numbers you want students to practice.

Can I use it for times tables practice?

Yes! Set the operation to multiplication and choose your difficulty level. Tug of Math is perfect for daily times tables drills. Students practise their multiplication facts in a fun, competitive format with the whole class involved.

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of Tug of Math at tugofmath.app. By using the service, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

Tug of Math is an educational math game designed for classroom use on interactive whiteboards. The service includes a free whiteboard game, optional user accounts, multiplayer functionality, and premium subscription plans.

2. Accounts

An account is not required to use the free whiteboard game
If you create an account, you must provide accurate information
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password
You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Abuse, disrupt, or overload the service or its infrastructure
Use automated tools to access the service without permission
Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code
Impersonate other users or misrepresent your identity
Use the service for any unlawful or harmful purpose

4. Subscriptions & Payments

Premium plans (Pro and School) are available as monthly or yearly subscriptions
Payments are processed securely through Stripe
You can cancel your subscription at any time through the billing portal
After cancellation, you retain access until the end of your current billing period
We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods
We may change subscription prices with 30 days' notice

5. Your Content

You retain ownership of content you create, such as custom problem sets
By using the service, you grant us a limited license to store and display your content as necessary to provide the service
Content shared within an organization is accessible to other members of that organization

6. Intellectual Property

Tug of Math, including its design, code, and branding, is our intellectual property. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the service without permission.

7. Service Availability

We strive to keep Tug of Math available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control. Real-time multiplayer features depend on third-party infrastructure and may occasionally experience disruptions.

8. Limitation of Liability

Tug of Math is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms
Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases. Your data will be handled according to our Privacy Policy.

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes shall be resolved by the competent courts in the Netherlands.
